A Little Closer to Home

Hard to believe that we’ve written so many entries in this blog, and yet this is one of the first wildlife pictures we’ve posted!  As much as we love architecture and landscapes, wildlife really calls to us, too.

But, as this picture shows, you don’t need to go too far from home to see beautiful creatures.  In fact, this golden pheasant (the Chrysolophus pictus, for those who want to scientific name) lives at the Smithsonian National Zoo, which is just a couple miles from our house.

There was something about him that caught our eye – maybe it was his direct gaze, or his vivid colors, or his sparkling eyes.
